The Retirees
Today was my Mom’s last official working day. Next Tuesday is my Dad’s last day.

My mom, Georgia, has been in elementary education for over 32 years. She has been teaching first grade for the last several years. It is really weird to think that next August, she won’t be headed back to BES to begin another year. I can remember being in kindergarten and mom being close by. I tried to be on my best behavior, but I can remember getting in trouble for talking too much. Go figure. Mom has been an amazing teacher and I know they will miss her at the school.

Over at PHS, my Dad, Johnny, has been an assistant principal for the past ten years. Over the course of his career he taught vocational education courses, worked out of the state department in Atlanta, been the vocational supervisor, and lots of other things. I personally thought it was always pretty handy to have him at the high school, anytime I had something go wrong from locking my keys in the car to needing something signed, he was always there. Pretty much every Friday night in the fall he has been at a football game cheering on the mighty Panthers. It is pretty amazing to think that in less than a week, he will be officially retired!
My parents are great. It is a little crazy that they are retiring at the same time, but I know they will enjoy it. With right at 65 years of service between the two of them, they have certainly put in their time. Congratulations Mom and Dad!
