Close Enough to Perfect for Me

March 25, 2008 at 1:23 pm (Life)

Dan called a few hours ago. His perfect set of teeth are marred. Not horribly, grant you, but enough to ruin his perfect record. Up until today, Dan has literally had no problem with his teeth. No cavities. No braces. Nothing. Today he got some bad news: it seems he has external resorption on one of his front teeth.

I know he appreciates me sharing this with you, but I felt he really needed his friends to circle around him in his time of crisis.

(Hopefully you can tell I am writing this tongue in cheek.  I know it is something that we are going to have to deal with soon and it won’t be all that fun for him.  He honestly sounded more taken aback by being given any type of bad news about his teeth than anything else.)

    external what??

Tooth resorption is when the body cells attack and destroy part of a tooth. External resorption is when the cells on the outside of a tooth attack the outside of the tooth.

So what do you do about it?

He has to go to a dental specialist and basically have his gum cut back, the tooth scraped, then they will sew the gum together again. It sounds like something closer to torture than fun as far as I can tell.
