Physical Science
It has come to my attention that I did not pay enough attention in my high school science courses. It seems that I temorarily forgot that if you touch something that has electric voltage running through it, you would get shocked, especially if you had any moisture on your hands. Well, did I get a reminder today! I decided to wash Roy's water bowl out and upon placing it back in the kennel I had to shut the gate to the area where the dog kenel is. As it was, the chain was touching the electric fence, without paying too much attention to it, I grabbed for it with my still wet hands and….WHAM! Let's just say I doubt that I will have a relapse on this particular cause and effect experience anytime soon.
As an update: the caterer is officially mine, I am thrilled and I think she is, too. Dan and I are going wedding band shopping on Friday, I am absolutely ecstatic about that! It is just really neat to think that after dating over four years that the time is finally right where we can be man and wife for the rest of our lives, I am looking forward to this new chapter in our lives more than words can say.
Moooving Along
Dan and I had a lovely weekend working around his home. The grass is cut, flowers planted in the pots out front, the ant beds were treated, and the flower bed out front has been weeded. Dan “destroyed the habitats” of the birds living in the garage and front porch, he was actually very sweet and concerned for their well being, but it really did need to be done. It was busy, but we were able to accomplish a lot.
Then Monday morning came around. Oh, what a Monday morning it has been thus far. As I was leaving my home around 7:30 this morning, a kind passer-by met me in the drive to tell me that our cows had decided to eat grass near the highway…on the wrong side of the fence. Great. After calling in recruits (the guys at the office as well as my dad), we successfully convinced the offending cows to get back into the pasture, finally. Within an hour’s time, I had gone from a very neat, professional looking college graduate to a dirty, nappy haired girl playing with her cows. That is right, it was one of my finer moments. Hopefully the rest of the day will go a bit more, well, normal!
Food Finale, maybe
Caterers are just different breeds of people. They talk as much as the local hair dresser, complain about rising costs like farmers, and dress like ladies at the country club at a luncheon. I don’t mean anything ugly by any of that, it is just an observation. For finger foods I have been told anywhere from $10 to $12.50 a head. For the cakes (bride and groom) my quotes range from $1.25 to $2.75. It needs to be good, right?
I got a call on Tuesday from a Kathy in Macon. She does a fabulous job, but was the highest bidder as far as cost is concerned. She made a new bid and I will be honest with you, I was thrilled! The menu sounds delicious and her price became a lot more reasonable. I am very excited, but have decided to wait until tomorrow to give her the final go ahead.
Menu: 2 carving stations with ham, biscuits, and mustard sauce; sausage cheddar mini-muffins with mustard sauce served warm; dip station consisting of 7 layer mexican dip and spinach dip (both served chilled) with assorted dippers consisting of torilla chips, fritos, and triscuit crackers; pimento cheese ribbon sandwiches; open faced bacon and tomato sandwiches; cheese straws; strawberry and grape arrangement; assorted cheese cubes with crackers; piped divinity; sugar cookies with whte icing and red sugar on top; white chocolate dipped pretzel rods with red and white sugar on sides; tiny brownie bites; and of course punch. I think it sounds really good, Dan is thrilled about it, too. We will see!
Food for Thought
I truly hope that everyone had a great Easter, Dan and I had a fabulous day filled with family, food, and lots of laughs. It was really great to see all of both Dan and my family between Saturday and Sunday, though to be truthful, I am absolutely exhausted tonight.
Mom and I get to meet with yet another caterer tomorrow afternoon. Words cannot express how excited I am about this, not. It seems that rolling ham and dipping strawberries in chocolate takes a great deal of experience and expertise. Ode to the rigorous demands associated with making finger foods. I have met with three caterers and it seems that each of the experts have their own opinion as to what is and what is not acceptable food for a 1:00 wedding. My Martha Stewart planner is obviously missing a section, it doesn't say anything about "How to Keep Your Sanity and Book a Caterer, Too!" Okay, enough sarcasm, moving on. It is still my goal to have a caterer booked for December 2 by May 1, I am determined.
Honestly though, who knew that a chicken salad sandwich is handled seven times before it reaches its finished state? Where were those statistics in college when we were being prepared for the "real world." I think I must have skipped that day!
